Ethan's obituary was in the Star Phoenix today and I thought it was very well written.  It made me cry, but it also made me smile.  I wanted to share it with you...

Ethan Matthew Glines
May 15th, 2010 - May 1st, 2011

It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our precious son Ethan Matthew on Sunday, May 1st, 2011, at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in California after suffering from a post operative infection following open heart surgery on April 13th, 2011. Ethan fought a courageous battle with congenital heart disease for the 11 months of his short life, but in the end, he got tired and told us it was time to let him go. Ethan passed away in his parent's arms surrounded with love.

Ethan is survived by his parents Shaun and Lisa Glines of Saskatoon; paternal grandparents George and Barb Glines of Turtle Lake; maternal grandparents Ernie and Wanda Friesen of Saskatoon; Uncle Eric, Auntie Michelle, cousins Damon, Brooke Glines of Saskatoon; Auntie Kristen Glines, Jeff Mushka of Calgary; Auntie Lindsay Glines of Edmonton; Auntie Laura (Lola), Uncle Ryan, cousins Alex, Julia Herman of Saskatoon.

Ethan will be most remembered for his smile and his screams of delight. He taught us a lifetime of lessons in his short time here on earth. Ethan demonstrated determination, courage, strength and a will to live like no other. He was and always will be our little Ironman. He fought to the bitter end, and we are so proud of him. Ethan enjoyed bath time, eating french fries, watching Baby Einstein, grabbing at the family pets, playing in his highchair, dancing to MC Hammer's Can't Touch This, and being tickled on his change table, but most of all, he loved being cuddled. We will forever miss the hours spent cuddling and playing with Ethan in the lazyboy chair in front of the fire watching television. Our arms ache with emptiness knowing that we will never have the privilege of holding you close again our sweet little E-man.

We were blessed to experience many firsts with Ethan including his first 4 teeth, first words (Dada and Mama), first solid foods, first carousel ride at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, first airplane ride, and most precious of all, his first birthday which we celebrated at the hospital several hours before his passing. Know that you are gone but not forgotten, our sweet little prince. Mommy and Daddy love you forever and always.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.at Louise Avenue Congregational Church, (1602 Lousie Ave. Saskatoon, SK.) The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. William Albritton, our dear friend Dawn Erker, as well as the staff in the cardiovascular intensive care unit at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, California for giving our baby a chance at life and for not giving up on him.
