The Next Step?

I have been contemplating the next step in my fitness journey. Before I started this I assumed that my next step would probably be a gym membership and putting in time at a facility outside my home. I am not ruling out the possibility but I don't think I need to do that right now. I am still enjoying my dates with Jillian Michaels each day. I have been rotating through three of her DVDs as well as a few different ones I have found online or on Sasktel Max On Demand.

In the last few months I have done a LOT of reading online about different exercise programs, DVDs, diet plans, etc. I think I understand how Jason can spend so much time reading up on photography techniques and new equipment and whatnot. If you are really interested in a subject it is pretty easy to spend time researching and educating yourself in that area.

Something I came across in all my readings was something called P90X. I had never seen the infomercials on TV or heard of it before this. I wondered if it might be for me so I started seeking out information about this program. I realized that it is a pretty advanced program that at the time I felt like I might end up hurting myself if I tried it. Either that, or I would be so sore that I wouldn't be able to function properly at work. I found samples of some of the videos online and was amazed to see that the workouts included pull ups, lots of push ups, plenty of ab work, resistance training, cardio and even yoga. It is a 90 day program that is intended to be done six days/week.

I am starting to consider giving it a try. To get the DVDs (13 different DVDs) and guide books costs about $150 with shipping, then I would have to get a few more weights (I only have 3s and 5s right now) and get some sort of pull up bar. There are ones that fit in doorways, but the only doorways that would work for it in our house would probably be our bedroom, the office or our upstairs bathroom. I was looking at some free standing pull up bars online. The first thing I thought was, "hey, my father-in-law could probably weld me one of those." Haha. It is a pretty simple design, but they do take up more space, however we do have a fair bit of space in our basement. Just something I am thinking about right now.

Not sure if I am ready for it, but I have read reviews from people who were 400lbs when they started, or other people who couldn't do a single push up or pull up when they started and by the time they finished the first 90 days they could do 20 or 30 in a row. I am enjoying feeling my body change, and getting stronger, even the stiffness doesn't bother me too much anymore. Though today, after doing a yoga video last night, I can hardly put my arms behind my back without wincing in discomfort. I think a soak in the tub is in order...

When you started talking about your exercise program, I was thinking you should try P90x. I know people that have done it and love it. I think the key is it varies everyday. I do just one of the videos. I would love to do more, but I just don't have the time required to commit to it.

I'm sure you could get the set for cheaper from people who are done with it on kijiji or something. People who finish it like to go on to P90x plus.

I have also heard people talk about doing Insanity after P90X. I looked up that one the other night! Wow, I can't imagine being that fit! A few people said they vomited after doing the fit test for Insanity.

Jay and I were talking about how to build me a chin up bar this morning. Should be fairly easy I think!

P90X is awesome! From the look of your pictures I'd say you'd be just fine to start. Plus you've already been working out consistently 6 days a week.

I couldn't do a single push up on my toes two months ago, but now I can do like 15-20 per sitting. There's tons of ways to modify everything if you aren't up to it yet, and they show you all of that. Nutrition is key!
