I think this caption says it all. On first glance of this picture I thought to myself, "Wow, she's sort of chubby." Then I realized that this is Marilyn Monroe and that she was a major sex symbol in the 40s and 50s (I didn't realize she died of an overdose in 1962 at the age of 36). So 50-60 years have passed since this was considered sexy. No wonder so many people have self esteem and body image issues. I recall reading somewhere that Marilyn Monroe wore a size 12. Now a model who wore that size would probably be considered plus size :P I did find a website that claims that no one really knew her actual clothing size but that her measurements were about 36-24-37. She had a very tiny waist, but definitely had some curves.

Distorted body image
