Don't bother

I have noticed a couple of times driving down eighth street in the last few months that something new was going in to the spot where Pizza Hut then Poverino's used to be. I kept watching and didn't see a sign until about a month or so ago. It said Avocado. I was curious as to what this restaurant was about. I am always interested to try new places because we always get sort of bored with the same old places. On Friday when I was coming home from work I drove past and noticed they had added to the sign on Avocado that it is a "Fresh Mexican Grill". I thought that sounded good. We have tried a couple of different Mexican type restaurants in the last year or so and have enjoyed trying some more authentic food than Taco Time offers.

We decided to give it a whirl on the way home from church today. I would say that on the whole that the food was good. However, the prices were too high, the menu too limited and the service was poor. The waitress who was serving us seemed like a nice enough girl, but they had her looking after almost half of the restaurant by herself and it was busy in there. One couple actually left without ordering because they sat there for about 10 minutes or so and didn't even have drink orders taken. Or maybe they left because they weren't interested in eating from the limited expensive menu. Jason had a beef burrito with sweet potato fries and it was $14. My chicken burrito with sweet potato fries was $12.50. Not to mention that they do not give you dipping sauce with the fries, you have to pay an extra $0.75 for a spiced garlic mayo dip. The food was good, but not worth the prices.

I can honestly say that I think the food was comparably as good at Taco Del Mar. It is a fast food taco place in the Lawson Heights Mall. I would say that Taco Del Mar is a step up from Taco Time, and I think I liked it better than Cactus Joe's. So, next time you are looking for some good, authentic Mexican food, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg, I would not recommend going to Avocado.
