19 years ago today...

I was walking home from school. I climbed up onto one of the snow piles at the side of the street to cross the street and I slipped and fell into the path of an oncoming taxi. I don't have a lot of memories of my time spent in the hospital, but I do remember a few things. I remember watching part of the movie ET in the pediatric ward play room. I remember there was a little girl on the ward who had tourrettes syndrome and swore a blue streak at the top of her lungs at anyone she didn't know. I recall my first meal I got to eat in there, I requested pork chops because they were my favorite meal at the time. Surprise surprise they were awful :P I also remember my grandma bringing me a jar of dill pickles to keep in the ward fridge and I could ask the nurse for one whenever I wanted.

Thankfully there were no long reaching effects from that accident, it could have been worse. Looking back on it, I feel bad for the guy who had to sit behind me in class after my accident. I had a big scabby wound on the back of my head that took until November of that year to fully heal up. He had to look at it every day...and my sister has told me since then that the wound was smelly too (I don't remember). I wore pig tails for months to keep my hair out of the wound.

Well, here's to 19 years accident free!
