Last night Jay and I were reminiscing about old high school and university teachers who were memorable, whether negative or positive. I just wanted to share a couple of my memories. I think the worst teacher I had in high school was Mr. Hawn. He was my grade 10 english teacher. He was gay, not that means much, but to help picture him, he was pretty feminine. He wore pink shirts, had a feminine touch to his voice, and when he stood at the podium at the front of the class he would kinda rub his leg against it. He had major anger management issues. I remember one class when he went on and on about how our class would never amount to anything, and I remember him swearing at our class. No one person in particular, but just swearing at us. I remember with the setup of the class Karen and I sat facing eachother in that class. We would just give eachother these little looks and would just laugh and laugh and laugh.
Another memorable class was grade 12 biology. I think the only thing I really remember is dissecting fetal pigs. Our teacher...gosh I can't even remember her name....was from England. When she was passing out the pigs to the class, I recall her pulling one out and kinda waving it around and asking in a little piggy voice "Who wants to dissect me?" haha. But that wasn't the end of the fun. It took us 2 or 3 days to get everything dissected that we wanted to dissect, so overnight we put them in the biology fridge. Well I don't know if the temperature got turned down or something, but when we went back to them the next day they were frozen solid. So there we were, giving our little piggy's warm baths to thaw them out. One more thing. The group that sat behind us, they misunderstood the first instruction, which was to cut down the corners of the pigs mouth, so we could open it up and see what the pallet and teeth looked like. Instead of doing that, they cut straight across and cut off the pigs bottom jaw. Our teacher went over to see their group and said "You've cut off it's chin!!!" Then they got some pins and pinned it back on. Haha!
It's amazing how memorable teachers can make our school experiences. I have a lot of other memories, but those were the two that really stood out last night. A few other memorable ones included grade 12 physics with Mr Stonehouse and my first year math professor. Karen do you remember his name? I totally don't, but he was quite an 'interesting' one. I remember we made our friend come to class with us just so she could see for herself how nuts he was.
Anyone else have memorable teacher stories??
