If I may rant for a moment

Know what really frustrates me? On Friday neither Mieka or I had any appointments booked on Monday until around 4pm. I figured that since Mieka was in early a couple of days last week that I would come in today early (10:30am) and put in time until our appointments. You never know when another booking will pop up, but the phones have been so quiet in the last week or so. I sat and read and did some laundry and did a bit of Christmas shopping at the Midtown. Finally when 4:30pm rolled around my client DIDN'T show up! Argh! I sat there all day today pretty much for NO reason :P *Sigh* My client did appologize profusely and offered to pay our cancellation fee, but really, is it that hard to remember an appointment? Maybe it's just me, but when I have appointments (dentist, doctor, hair, etc) it is pretty much at the front of my mind. And this is the 2nd time this client has forgotten their appointment. Last time I just called the client and she works downtown so she rushed over and still had her appointment. Today that didn't work out, so I had no appointments today :P

That's my rant for the day!

On a happier note we have another appointment booked with Fraser Homes on Thursday to go back and ask them some more questions. I am looking forward to that....after looking at that house last week, and thinking about the probability of a suitable house coming available for us....I am pretty sure we will end up building. And likely we will start the process early in the new year! I can't believe it's already the end of October! Before we know it will be 2007 and we'll be moving and getting our new puppy :)

Christmas came early (Part 2)?

Last night on our house listings email (we get a couple each day when new listings come available), there was a house that claims to be wheelchair accessible. We know that everyone has a different concept of what accessible means, and other than that there weren't too many details. It's in Forest Grove, it's a bungalow and it's 2200 sq ft! We are trying to get in contact with the real estate agent to see if we can go check it out. Wow, maybe we'll get a new house for Christmas! Ha...not getting my hopes up, it's pretty old.....we'll see though. I've been praying about it though, so we will see what God has to say.

Christmas came early...

We were at Costco today and found that they had lamb skins. For those who don't know, they are good for alleviating pressure which is good for people with reduced sensation and paralysis. Jay has used one for years to prevent pressure sores on his feet while sleeping. His old one was only half of a pelt and cost around $80, however this one at Costco was a full pelt and was only $43. Christmas came early for Jay today :) Makes my shopping a little easier for him! Yay for good deals. Now maybe we should go back and buy a lifetime supply of them!

More proof that I must, in fact, be getting old...

Today Jason and I met my sister and her two sons for lunch at Market Mall. We had a good time and James just LOVED playing in the little playland at the mall. However at one point he wanted to ride on the little boat (you know those little rides that are always in malls, I've seen cars, helicopters, boats, etc). When I was a kid, these rides were 25 cents. I found out today that they are now a DOLLAR! Can you believe it!?! I feel so old. Like our parents when they say they used to be able to buy a bag of candy and a bottle of pop for 25 cents when they were a kid. Now that would be at least 5 dollars. Crazy! Makes me feel old!

Let kids be kids

On John Gormley this morning they were talking about how they have banned tag and touch football during recess in some schools in the states. The reason, kids were getting hurt and parents were suing the school. Makes me glad that we live in Canada where not every other ad on tv is for Sam Bernstein or Jim 'the hammer' Shapiro, who want to get you "the money YOU deserve" if you've been hurt. Weird Al released a new album a week or so ago (it's a good one!!)and one of the songs on there is called I'll Sue Ya and it makes me smile because it is so true! Here are the lyrics:

I sued Taco Bell'
Cause I ate half-a-million Chalupas and I got fat
I sued Panasonic
They never said I shouldn't use their microwave to dry off my cat, huh
I sued Earthlink
'Cause I called 'em up and they had the nerve to put me on hold
I sued Starbucks
'Cause I spilled a frappucino in my lap and brr, it was cold

I sued Toys 'R Us
Cause I swallowed a Nerf ball and nearly choked to death, huh
I sued PetCo
'Cause I ate a bag of kitty litter and now I got bad breath
I sued Coca-Cola, yo'
Cause I put my finger down in a bottle and it got stuck
I sued Delta Airlines
'Cause they sold me a ticket to New Jersey - I went there, and it sucked

YeahIf you stand me up on a date
If you deliver my pizza thirty seconds late
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, that's what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, I might even sue youUghh

I sued Duracell
They never told me not to shove that double-A right up my nose
I sued Home Depot
'Cause they sold me a hammer which they knew I might drop on my toes
I sued Dell Compueters
'Cause I took a bath with my laptop, now it doesn't work
I sued Fruit Of The Loom
'Cause when I wear my tighty-whities on my head I look like a jerk

I sued Verizon
'Cause I get all depressed every time my cell phone is roaming
I sued Colorado
'Cause you know, I think it looks a little bit too much like Wyoming

I sued Neiman Marcus
'Cause they put up their Christmas decorations way out of season
I sued Ben Affleck
Aww, do I even need a reason?Uhh

If I sprain my ankle while I'm robbin' your place
If I hurt my knuckles while I punch you in the face
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, that's what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, that's right, I'm gonna sue

Christmas Shopping

I know most of you probably think that it is WAY to early to even think about Christmas shopping but I am usually well on my way to being done by this time of year. Well maybe not WELL on my way, but at least partially done. I haven't even started yet and I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed. I don't have THAT many people to buy for because we do name draws for my immediate family, and another one with some of my aunts, uncles and cousins. But I do have another nephew to buy for this year, and now that I know my co-workers better maybe I can buy them something a little more thoughtful than a tin of homemade Christmas baking. I finally have a good idea thought up for Jason's gift (well one of them anyway) and it's kind of original!

Jason just brought to my attention the fact that it's snowing outside. That makes me mad....I hate the first snow of the year, it makes me angry grrrrr! I dread the driving on slippery roads, and the window scraping and cold vehicles. *sigh* It better melt and be nice and dry for Friday when I go to Camp Kadesh!

We're home!

It was a nice trip to Swift Current this weekend. We didn't do a whole lot (other than eat too much), but it was relaxing, and was nice to see Jason's parents. We were sent home with a pretty good supply of leftover turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, etc., but no cranberry sauce. Yesterday we decided to get a few groceries after we got home and I planned to pick up a can of cranberry sauce. After checking out the fresh cranberries and seeing the recipe on the back for home made cranberry sauce I picked up a bag of fresh. I combined 1 cup water, 1 cup splenda and 3 cups cranberries and boiled them for 10 minutes. It is super tasty sauce. I know not everyone likes cranberry sauce, but it is SO much better than out of a can. It is a little more tart, but I think that this is the way to go :) I feel so domestic...hehe. Maybe I should bake another pie!

Haha!

Today in the mail we recieved something that belongs to a woman that lives in phase two of our condo complex. I was trying to figure out what it was and could see through the envelope that it was a calendar from the foot and mouth artists. I said to Jason, I should keep this, I would like to have a calendar done by them. And he so innocently asked, "who would want a calendar with pictures of feet and mouths?" I'm still crying from laughing so hard.
As I hear more and more information on the news about that shooting last week at the Amish school in Pennsylvania I feel so sad. Not that it's any sadder than any other school shooting, it just has hit me harder I suppose. I don't know a lot about the Amish, but from what I do know they are a very peaceful group of people, and I can't imagine how devistating this must have been for them. I heard on one news report that the families of the victims have forgiven the shooter. I know that as Christians we are called to forgive our enemies, but I can't imagine how difficult it would be to forgive the man who murdered my little girl. *sigh* So sad :(

Arrrgh!

We got a call the other day from Homes by Dundee, letting us know that they had finished drawing up our house plan (three weeks later than they originally said it would take). We made arrangements to meet with the salesman this evening and when we got there he informed us that he had forgotten our file on his desk at his office. The main point of us talking to them was to get an estimate on what it might cost for us to build. He also informed us that they hadn't finished "pricing out" our house plan. So why did they call us and arrange this meeing?? Then he proceeded to tell us that the plan turned out very nicely, with some wider hallways, wider doorways and a larger turning radius in the master bathroom. As he said this I started to clench my teeth and feel sick to my stomach. It just makes me mad that these people dare to assume that they know better what we need in a house than we know. It makes me wonder if the salesman even listened to what we said. I do have it in my mind to write a letter to Homes by Dundee to let them know where they went wrong and why they won't be getting our business.
