My sister had her first ultrasound today and I got to see a picture of the little baby. It was so exciting to see because at this point, the baby is small enough that you can see the whole body on the picture. It looked like the baby was trying to suck his thumb but it hadn't quite gotten to the mouth yet. Or maybe it was just giving us all a thumbs up :) They decided to find out the gender of the baby, and unlike a lot of people I know who have found out, they ARE telling people what they are having. It will be another nephew for Jason and I. It is exciting, I think a girl may have been fun, but I think it will be nice for James to have a little brother. Yay for being an auntie again!
Got some bad news today....apparently mom and dad started smoking again today. However, my sister finally told them that she wouldn't be bring James over unless either they smoked outside or quit again. Because their house is just so stinky, and even when I go there for an hour or so I come out with eyes burning and usually a headache. *sigh* I know that my parents are very sensitive and I really hope that this will not drive a wedge into the family. I know that my parents just adore James, and what better reason to quit?? I dunno, I will keep praying and hopefully they will see the light. I thought for sure, with them flushing the tobacco down the toilet that they were super serious.....*sigh*

Fishing Report
We are home from Swift Current. The weather was just lovely yesterday for a few hours of fishing. I more than quadrupled my tally from my entire lifetime of fishing. I believe I probably caught about 20 fish yesterday. I lost count after about the first five, but I can tell you that Jason caught 34 and tried and tried for that 35th one and just couldn't get it. I can't believe how hard the fish were biting. I even figured out how to take the fish off of my hook, so that my father-in-law could actually do some fishing, not just take fish off of Jason and my hooks. Right after taking a break for lunch I threw my hook in and within about 5 minutes I had caught about 4 fish. I wonder if they weren't all the same one because I kept throwing them back because they were pretty small. I again enjoyed using my father-in-law's underwater camera for watching and catching the fish. There was a couple of times that the fish bit my hook before I even could pick it up off the bottom of the lake. Crazy fish! At the end of the day we took home 26 perch and cooked them all up for supper for the 4 of us. There was a PILE of fish, and we ate lots and there was a PILE leftover! It was super tasty :)
An exciting tidbit of information. My parents have quit smoking. They have tried and failed many times, but this time they are very gung ho about it. They even flushed half a can of tobacco and a package of rolled cigarettes down the toilet to get rid of it. Usually my dad would just hang onto it because he quote "felt it was easier to quit with some in the house"...yeah right :P They are using the nicotine patch to help them quit and I really hope that this is it. They both smoke a lot, and my mom has quit in the past and restarted but I think right now is the longest that dad has ever quit for (they quit on Thursday). Please pray for them as they really need to do this because they just CANNOT afford it and it is so bad for their health (not to mention the health of everyone around them).

Oodles of Schnoodles

I have been doing a lot of research on schnoodles in the last week or so. I am quickly falling in love with this breed of dog. It is a mix between a schnauzer and a poodle. I am not a big fan of either of the breeds on their own, but the mixture is something else. And being that it is a mixed breed, there are less health concerns than there would be with a pure bred dog. They appear to have a wonderful temperament and they are a non-shedding breed. I even think that I have found a breeder in Manitoba that sounds really great. Just need a house.....

In Memory of Grandma
As you will likely remember, my grandma passed away last September. In her will she left each of the grandchildren a bit of money. I have been pondering what I should use this money for. I didn't really want it to just be put into the bank account and used in day to day spending (ie bills, groceries, etc.). I wanted to use it for something special, something to maybe remember grandma by. I think I have come up with a great thing to spend that money on. After much careful consideration, I would like to spend that money on a schnoodle. Of course we can't have one for probably at least a couple of years (we'll need to have a house first), but I can't think of anything more special to buy. Grandma would definitely approve.

Valentine's Day
Come and gone for another year. It is surprising that once you are married that it doesn't mean quite as much anymore. Well, maybe it depends on the state of the marriage. I agree with Lynette about showing love to the people around you (especially your spouse) daily. But maybe if Valentine's Day is the only day you feel love, it would mean more.
For an early Valentine's day, Jay and I went out for supper on Saturday to the Keg with my sister and brother-in-law. We recieved a gift certificate for Christmas and decided that it would be a good time for the 4 of us to go out and enjoy ourselves. I think it may have been the most expensive meal that I have ever eaten, however we only ended up paying about $15 on top of the gift certificate, so not bad! We shared an appetizer, had steak and shared dessert, over the course of about 2 and a half hours. It was kind of loud in there but the atmosphere is quite nice. It was good to spend that time with Robin and Lorne sans James, as we don't get a lot of time to spend with the 2 of them, and with baby #2 on the way this summer....it probably won't happen too often in the next few years.

Why oh why...
can they never find a vein in my arm when I need to have blood taken for blood tests? Last night I stopped eating after supper with the intention of fasting for my blood work today. I went down there this morning and didn't have to wait too long. I got in and she dug in a needle, then poked it around under my skin looking for a vein. Then after a while she pulled it out and said she would try a different spot on my arm. She managed to get a little bit out of one vein but then either the needle slipped out, or went through it or something and it stopped bleeding. She wasn't sure if she would have enough blood to test for what my doctor had wanted. Before she went to check if it was enough another nurse stopped by our little cubicle and asked if my nurse would come over there when she was finished. Luckily it turned out that it was enough blood, so no more poking and digging around in my veins. When I was on my way out I peeked sideways into the cubicle that the girl had needed help at and noticed that the woman having the blood taken had blood running down her arm....maybe they could have used her excess had mine not been enough :P I think it is good that I am not squeemish or too easily grossed out, because I think all that digging around in my arm would have been enough to make someone pass out who was easily grossed out.

Today I get to go to the doctor. It has been almost exactly a year since my last complete checkup and I need to go again. I am pretty sure that there is nothing majorly wrong with me, but it will feel good to get another clean slate of health. I have only a few minor things to discuss with the doctor and hopefully she will have some solutions, or at least ideas for me.
Work has been pretty painfully slow the last couple of weeks. So far this week I only have 4 appointments booked (2 on Thursday and 2 on Friday). I hope that things pick up soon, as money is a good thing to have when you need to pay bills and buy groceries. I am again trying to think of places to hand out brochures, or something to try and gain some clientele.
I am looking forward to Saturday. Jay and I along with my sister and brother-in-law are going out for supper to the Keg. We got a gift certificate from grandpa for Christmas and plan to use that to eat a very filling and expensive meal :) I haven't yet decided whether I will have filet mignon or ribs...mmm beef hehe. It should be a good time, and perhaps after supper if there is time we will all come back here for a friendly game of Settlers or Carcassonne.
